The sixth meeting of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture’s Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group on Farmers’ Rights (AHTEG-FR or Expert Group) held in Rome from 23 to 26 June 2025.

The Secretariat introduced IT/GB-11/AHTEG-FR-6/25/3, “Approach, Methodology and Main Results of the Assessment of the State of Implementation of Article 9 of the International Treaty”, and “IT/GB-11/AHTEG-FR-6/25/3.1, Draft Assessment of the State of Implementation of Article 9 of the International Treaty”.
The Secretariat also introduced “IT/GB-11/AHTEG-FR-6/25/4, Draft Strategy on How the
Use of the “Options for Encouraging, Guiding and Promoting the Realisation of Farmers’ Rights as set out in Article 9 of the International Treaty” can be Promoted.” The Expert Group discussed the Draft Strategy, provided inputs and comments, and proposed a more elaborated version of the draft Strategy, which includes a dedicated Action Plan (2026 – 2029). The updated draft Strategy, incorporating the inputs and comments, will be presented to the Eleventh Session of the Governing Body for its consideration and endorsement.
